sorryy I've been mia for a while. been travelling way too much for my own good: victoria-vancouver-toronto-montreal-vancouver-singapore. I almost went crazy on the flight back to singapore. but well, I made it back in one piece. =)

Toronto and Montreal were brilliant! It was really nice to spend time with Emily and Madeleine and to meet their families. Their parents are terribly nice and hospitable and very similar to them in many many ways - i guess that's how families are! so after all that hussle at the vancouver airport, I finally made it to toronto. Madeleine's daddy was really nice, he brought us on a day trip to Niagara falls - where I, having tourist status, got to go on the maid of the mist - it was such a pretty day to go to the falls. Then we had dinner at niagara by the lake....there was some strange Sir Henri VIII feast going on [it's some medieval thing where they eat without cutlery...dont ask me!]

Madeleine brought me around Kensington Market, Chinatown and Queens Street West =) I bought yummy paneer back for my sisters...i dont think they quite appreciated it as much as madeleine and I did - your standards fall after you've lived off cafeteria food for 2 years. and we went to watch the premiere of her school's movie which was hilarious...Stuart acted in it too, as a mad scientist - his hair made him quite apt for the role I must say. yupyup. ooh yes, and we visited the bata shoe museum. haha. yes, a shoe museum - i really liked it =) shoes have been such an integral part of society for such a long time and they reveal so much about the particular society's mindsets and practices it's rather fascinating. not to mention that the shoes were awfully pretty. yupyup. Apparently these 2 ladies once tried to steal an Iranian pair of shoes and claimed that they didnt know they were stealing...umm. ooh yes, and i thought it was hilarious - the dye for the colour mauve was created by a scientist, William Henri Perkin, who was trying to create quinine to cure malaria but made a mistake and that sparked a fashion craze. haha. ok...that was random. yupp, and the trip ended with a race to the train station =)

We were competing to find the tackiest souvenir...i miss you madeleine! =(

Montreal was quite different - a little more european, well, there wEre scale models of Notre dame and others. But yea, Emily was wonderful as well =) We spent the days wandering around Montreal and the nights watching classic old movies. haha. which were actually rather thought provoking...well, some of them. so yes, we were marilyn monroe/audrey hepburn fans for those few days. I prefer audrey hepburn though. ANYWAYYY. we went to this excellent vegetarian buffet place on st catherine's street - their equivalent of orchard road - and a yummy sandwich place on Prince Edward Street. St Laurents was quite interesting too, although the day we went there we got caught in the rain...and ran from Dépanneur to Dépanneur trying to buy an umbrella...till we were rather soaked and one storekeeper took pity on us and gave us one. =) We ended up walking through the park barefoot...Old Montreal was quaint, with cobbled streets, horses, cathedrals and artists...yupyup. ooh yes, we caught ice age 2 as well =) it was a nice movie...haha...esp the part where the vultures broke out in song, haha, that was excellent. yupyup, but once again, my standards for movies may have plummeted considering that was the first movie i'd watched in 9 months...
Michael [Ireland] came to Montreal from Toronto on Friday and we picked him up from the bus station where he'd been talkin for an hour with an Iranian guy whose neighbour was strongly against multiculturalism. haha. ok, that was random. we went for vietnamese food at this restaurant which had an excellent painting of a really poised and beautiful asian girl standing by river. yupyup. then we headed up mount royal - that's how Montreal got its name - Emily's daddy drove us up...her francophone friend, Eloise, joined us...she reminded me of Stefania [Italy] and Michelle [Ecuador] but Michael and Emily said i was just me...haha. yupp and we walked down in the dark - that was quite scary - and ended up in a sundae place, which really reminded us of pop tate's. We also stopped by a concert by an Australian guitarist on the way home...he was very talented and the acoustics were nice simply coz it was in an old cathedral...yupyup. Music has such a great influence on your emotions and memory - apparently it's coz the parts of your mind that seperately relate to emotion and music are located close together. our umbrella from the depanneur storekeeper =)
ohhhh. did i mention, they have the most gorgeous dandelions in Ontario and Montreal =)

hmm, I've been reading The End of Poverty and...I don't know...it's not quite as excellent as people make it out to be. The thoughts are rather scattered and meandering. Well, i gues it's just different manners of thought organization, he does make certain good points afterall.

okok. this post is wayy longer than it should be. so yes. back in singapore...lots of things to get going, it's going to be a packed summer! I'm probably going to attend lindy hop lessons btw! =) haha. sara, aren't you proud of me? =)
